What you do

Garden Gnome Guard is a cozy survivor game. You move one determined gnome through an open garden while watering cans, rakes, bees, trowels, seed bombs, wind chimes and sunbeams attack on their own. Each level-up grows your build with new tools and charms, and the right pairings evolve into bigger versions. Survive until the garden's boss arrives, then beat it to save the garden.

  • Five tool and five charm slots, and seven tool evolutions to discover.
  • Three gardens with their own pests, boss and time of day, from a sunny lawn to a moonlit meadow.
  • Nine pests with readable warnings: charging beetles, tunneling moles, swooping crows and thorn-spitting thistles.
  • Flower pots to break for snacks.
  • Four gnomes to unlock, each starting with a different tool.

How to play

  1. Press Play. Your tools attack nearby pests on their own. Your job is to move.
  2. Drag anywhere to steer with the joystick, or use W A S D or the arrow keys. Keep moving, because pests close in from every side.
  3. Walk over the seeds that pests drop. A full seed pouch is a level-up: pick one of the cards.
  4. Cards add a new tool, level up one you have, or add a charm that boosts everything. A level 8 tool plus its matching charm evolves when you open a chest.
  5. When a bud sprouts, stand in its ring until it blooms for a chest and a heal. Big golden pests also drop chests.
  6. Survive until the boss arrives (5:00 on the Sunny Lawn), then beat it to save the garden. Acorns you collect buy lasting upgrades in the Potting Shed.

Controls

  • Touch or mouse: drag anywhere in the garden to steer with the floating joystick.
  • Keyboard: W A S D or the arrow keys to move, 1 to 4 to pick a card, R to reroll and Esc for the run menu.
  • Tap or click a card to choose it, or use Reroll or Skip.
  • The menu button at the top right shows your build and lets you leave a run.
  • Shared toolbar: pause, restart, sound, help and fullscreen.

Tips worth knowing

  • Circle around a swarm instead of running straight away, so your tools keep hitting while you collect seeds.
  • Take a second tool early. The first level-up always offers one.
  • Check the Almanac for evolution pairs, then pick up the matching charm before the tool reaches level 8.
  • Beetles crouch before they charge and thistles glow before they spit. Step sideways when you see it.
  • Moles can only be hit above ground, and the dirt shakes just before one pops up.
  • Seed Magnet and Garden Boots make collecting calmer, and Bark Vest softens crowded moments.

Accessibility

  • This is a real-time action game: it needs steady movement and quick reactions.
  • Movement works with a keyboard, a mouse or touch, and level-up cards can be picked with the number keys.
  • Cards, menus and results are real buttons and text, and major events such as level-ups and boss arrivals are announced to screen readers.
  • The game pauses itself for level-ups, chests and the run menu, and the toolbar pause is always available.
  • Screen shake and damage numbers can be turned off in Options, and reduced motion turns off shake and trims particles. Sound is never required.

Questions

Is Garden Gnome Guard like Vampire Survivors?

Yes. It uses the same survivor-style loop in a cozy garden: you move, your tools attack automatically, seeds level you up, you pick upgrades, and tools evolve. A run lasts about 5 to 10 minutes.

What does the game save?

Acorns, Potting Shed upgrades, unlocked gardens and gnomes, best scores and options are saved in this browser on this device. A run in progress is not saved, but acorns you pick up are kept even if you leave a run early.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The garden fills the screen under the toolbar, and you steer with a joystick that appears wherever you touch, so your finger never covers the gnome.
