What you do

Lily Leap is an endless frog jumping game on a sunlit pond that scrolls as you advance. Its one core skill is leading a moving target: the landing spot is fixed the moment the frog jumps, while the lily pads keep moving, so you aim where a pad will be, not where it is. Rows of pads sway, bob, drift, and swirl, and logs, lily flowers, sinking pads, and diving turtles join them along the way. Named places such as Reed Bend, Lily Meadow, and Turtle Cove mark the way, and the pond quickens as you go while it turns from morning to sunset to moonlight. The crossing ends when all three frogs have splashed.

  • Named milestones from Reed Bend at 10 meters to the Far Shore at 300, with open water beyond.

How to play

  1. Press Play. The frog starts on the grassy shore with three frogs to spend.
  2. Tap or click a spot on the pond to hop there. A dotted circle shows how far the frog can reach, and on a computer a landing ring follows your mouse.
  3. Each hop takes 0.6 seconds and its landing spot is fixed when the frog jumps. Pads keep moving, so aim where a pad will be when you land. On the first rows, a dotted outline shows exactly that.
  4. Landing on a new row scores 10 points (one meter). Landing on its gold center adds 20 points times your gold streak, up to 200. An open lily flower adds 40, and each named place adds 100. Sideways and backward hops score nothing.
  5. Pads hold a frog for a few seconds; the ring around your pad shows the time left. Yellow pads with holes sink fast, lily flowers drop you when they close, turtles dive when their shells flash, and drifting pads and logs can carry you into the reeds. Each of these, or a landing in the water, costs one frog.
  6. After a splash, the frog climbs back onto the shore or onto a fresh pad on the row it last stood on. Tap a fly or dragonfly to snap it with your tongue for 25 or 75 points; every 12 bugs win back a lost frog. The crossing ends when all three frogs have splashed.

Controls

  • Touch: tap a spot to hop there; tap a bug to snap it with your tongue.
  • Mouse: the landing ring follows the pointer with no button held; click to hop, click a bug to snap it.
  • Keyboard: arrow keys or W, A, S, D move the landing ring, Space or Enter hops, and F or X snaps the nearest bug. The pond takes focus when a crossing starts.
  • Toolbar: pause, restart, sound, help, and fullscreen. Results screens only continue with their Play again and Title buttons.

Tips worth knowing

  • Lead the pad by the distance it travels in 0.6 seconds. On the first rows, the dotted outline shows you how much that is.
  • Watch the ring around your pad. When it turns orange, hop, even sideways to another pad on the same row.
  • Rest on the milestone stones: they never sink. Plan the next hop from there.
  • A flashing turtle shell or a shaking lily flower means hop now.
  • Snap bugs while you wait for a pad to line up. The tongue does not slow your hop.

Accessibility

  • Hop by touch, mouse, or keyboard; no hover or dragging is needed on touch screens.
  • Platforms have distinct shapes as well as colors, and the time left on your pad is shown as a ring. This is a visual timing game.
  • A screen reader hears splashes, frogs left, milestones, and the final distance.
  • Reduced motion removes decorative effects and screen shake. Pad movement and the hop remain part of the aiming challenge.
  • Optional sound can be muted. Pause freezes the crossing, including a hop in progress.

Questions

What does Lily Leap save?

Your best distance, top score, best gold streak, most bugs in one crossing, crossings played, and total meters, in this browser’s local storage. A crossing in progress is not saved. If you played the first eight-hop version of Lily Leap, its best score is kept and shown on the title screen as the classic best, because that game scored differently. Other games’ saves are left alone.

What counts as a gold landing?

Landing near a platform's golden center: the gold spot on a lily pad or stone, the golden middle of an open lily flower, the center scute of a turtle, or the golden knot in the middle of a log. Gold landings on new rows in a row build the streak; a plain landing or a splash starts it again.

Does it get harder?

Yes. Pads move faster, get smaller, and hold a frog for less time the farther you go, and new kinds of rows appear along the way: drifting pads from 11 meters, logs from 13, lily flowers from 26, sinking pads from 32, turtles from 41, and swirling pads from 46.
