What you do

Bakery Belt is a cozy arcade game about packing orders at a busy bakery counter. Cookies, coffee, bread, croissants, cupcakes, and paw cookies roll out of the oven along a conveyor, and customers wait at up to four order boxes, each with a picture recipe and a patience timer. The choices come fast: which box gets this cookie when two want one, which customer is running out of time, and whether to grab a treat now or let it ride. Every few boxes a new shift brings more treats, more customers, bigger orders, and a faster belt.

  • Stars for each shift, and a saved best score, furthest shift, and best combo on this device.

How to play

  1. Press Play. Treats come out of the oven chute and roll along the belt toward the far end, where they fall off.
  2. Each order box shows what its customer wants, such as 2 cookies and 1 coffee, and a timer bar. Treats that an open order needs glow on the belt.
  3. Drag a treat onto an order box that still needs it. While you drag, the boxes that take it light up green. A tap only picks a treat up; tap a box next to send it there.
  4. When every slot in a box is filled, the box is packed and sent. You score 10 points for each treat and 25 per treat in a shipped box, plus up to half again for time left on its timer.
  5. Ship the next box within 9 seconds to build a combo: each step adds a quarter to the multiplier, up to three times the points.
  6. A box that does not want the treat refuses it. The treat goes back on the belt, the customer loses 3 seconds of patience, and the combo ends. Burnt toast goes in no box, so leave it to roll off.
  7. If a box's timer runs out, the customer leaves and you lose one of three hearts. Lose all three and the bakery closes.
  8. Every few boxes a new shift starts: croissants join in shift 2, cupcakes and burnt toast in shift 3, and paw cookies, stopwatches, and gift boxes in shift 4. More customers arrive, orders get bigger, and the belt speeds up.
  9. Drop a stopwatch on a box to refill its timer. Ship a gift box to win back a lost heart.

Controls

  • Touch or mouse: drag a treat from the belt onto an order box. Or tap a treat to pick it, then tap a box.
  • Keyboard: Left and Right arrows (or A and D) pick a treat on the belt, and 1 to 4 send it to that order box. With nothing picked, 1 to 4 send the treat nearest the end of the belt that the box needs. Escape puts a picked treat down.
  • Toolbar: pause, restart, sound, help, and fullscreen.

Tips worth knowing

  • Fill the box with the least time left first, unless another box needs just one more treat to ship.
  • When two boxes want the same treat, finish one of them rather than half filling both.
  • Glowing treats near the end of the belt turn orange. Grab those before the ones that just came out of the oven.
  • Keep a stopwatch for a big order that is running low, not for a box that is almost done.
  • A box that cannot be finished in time is lost anyway, so spend your treats on the orders you can still ship.

Accessibility

  • The toolbar pauses the belt and every timer at any moment, and help keeps the game paused.
  • Everything can be played with a keyboard: arrow keys pick a treat and 1 to 4 send it to a box.
  • Order boxes show pictures of each treat, and the boxes that take the treat you are holding light up, so no reading or color matching is needed.
  • Tap a treat, then a box, instead of dragging. Reduced motion settings calm the animations.
  • New orders, packed treats, shipped boxes, and lost hearts are announced to screen readers.

Questions

Does Bakery Belt save my best score?

Yes. Your best score, most boxes shipped, furthest shift, and best combo are saved in this browser. A shift in progress is not saved. A best score from the older version of Bakery Belt is kept and shown on the title screen as the classic best, because it used different scoring.
